Gutters That Move Water Away Properly

Gutters fail quietly. A slow leak at the fascia, a downspout draining too close to the foundation, a section that's sagging a quarter-inch off pitch, none of it looks urgent until the damage shows up inside. SOS Home Ohio puts a senior gutter installation coordinator on every job, not just a crew with a ladder, and that oversight is why our gutter work consistently holds up through Ohio's freeze-thaw cycles and heavy spring runoff. We carry 49 five-star Google reviews because we stay involved from measurement to cleanup. Call 614-913-3809 and let's assess what your home actually needs.

We match every installation to your home's roofline, drainage grade, and the tree coverage that determines how fast your system clogs. Our crews work with aluminum, steel, copper, and vinyl systems, sizing and styling them so they look clean and move water the way they should. Cost varies based on linear footage, the number of downspouts, the gutter profile you select, and whether your existing fascia needs attention before we hang anything. Homes with complex rooflines or significant slope changes take more material and more time. Every job is different, contact SOS Home Ohio for an accurate estimate.

What We Handle

Gutter Materials We Install Every Day

Four material options, each with a different weight, lifespan, and curb-appeal profile.

01

Aluminum

The most common choice in Ohio for good reason. Aluminum won't rust, comes in seamless runs up to 40 feet, and holds paint well for decades. It handles most residential drainage loads without flexing under heavy rainfall.

02

Steel

Heavier gauge than aluminum and better suited to rooflines with long unsupported spans or above-average water volume. Galvanized steel holds up where aluminum would deform. It does require periodic inspection for rust at the seams.

03

Copper

The long-term investment. Copper develops a natural patina over time, never needs painting, and routinely outlasts the roofs it serves. It's the right call for homes where you want the gutter to be a permanent architectural detail.

04

Vinyl

Lightweight and easy to work with, vinyl is a practical option for straightforward rooflines in moderate climates. Ohio's temperature swings do cause vinyl to expand and contract more than metal, so we discuss placement carefully before recommending it.

Our Process

How a Properly Installed Gutter System Works

  1. 01

    Measurement and Pitch Calculation

Our coordinator measures the full roofline and calculates the correct pitch for every run before a single bracket goes up. A gutter that's level looks straight but pools water. We slope toward the downspout at the right grade so the system drains fully after every rain.

  2. 02

    Fascia Inspection and Prep

We check the fascia board before hanging anything. Rotted or water-damaged fascia can't hold a gutter bracket securely, and skipping this step is how gutters pull away from the house two winters later. If the fascia needs work, we say so before we start.

  3. 03

    Installation and Downspout Placement

Seamless runs are fabricated on-site to fit your exact measurements. Downspouts are placed to direct water at least six feet from the foundation, away from window wells and door frames. We don't guess at placement, we look at the grade around your home first.

Signs Your Gutters Need Replacement, Not Just Repair

01

Seams Failing Repeatedly

Sectional gutters that keep separating at the joints aren't a caulk problem. They're a system problem. If we've sealed the same seam twice, a seamless replacement is the more economical call over time.

02

Fascia Rot Behind the Gutter

Water backing up behind the gutter and soaking into the fascia is the most common hidden damage we find on inspection. By the time paint bubbles on the fascia, the wood underneath is usually soft. We uncover this before it reaches the rafter tails.

03

Gutters Pulling Away from the House

Hangers fail when the fascia behind them is compromised, or when the original installation used too few fasteners. Resetting a sagging run into bad wood just delays the next failure. We assess what's holding the system before recommending a fix.

04

Foundation Staining or Erosion Below Downspouts

Downspouts draining too close to the foundation, or gutters overflowing from clogs, direct water exactly where you don't want it. If you see erosion channels or staining at the base of your exterior walls, your drainage system isn't doing its job.

Pair Your New Gutters with Gutter Guards

aluminum work, professional service in Hilliard, OH
A new gutter system on a mature-tree lot without leaf protection is a maintenance commitment every fall and spring. We install gutter guards sized to your profile and gutter width so debris sheds off the edge instead of accumulating inside the channel. Guards don't eliminate cleaning entirely, but they cut the frequency significantly and protect the gutter from the weight of wet leaves sitting in standing water. If you're doing a full gutter replacement, adding guards at the same time is the most cost-efficient point to do it. The crew's already there, the ladders are already up.

Gutters Are Part of the Full Exterior Picture

  1. 01

    Roofline Coordination

Gutters mount to the fascia directly below the roof edge. If you're also doing a roof replacement, we coordinate the gutter work so drip edge and gutter placement are aligned correctly. A detail that's much harder to fix after the fact.

  2. 02

    Siding and Soffit Compatibility

We look at your soffit profile and vinyl siding before specifying the gutter bracket system. The wrong bracket on a vented soffit damages the vent strip. We've seen it. We don't repeat other contractors' mistakes.

  3. 03

    One Crew, One Coordinator

SOS Home Ohio handles roofing, siding, gutters, and exterior lighting under one roof. You're not managing four separate contractors and hoping they hand off cleanly. Our coordinator tracks the sequence and catches conflicts before they become callbacks.

SOS did a great job with my roof. From the initial estimate, working with the insurance company, explaining the process. They completed the job professionally and made sure everything was to my satisfaction before I signed off. They helped turn a very complex process into an easy one.

Paul from SOS came out today and was great. He clearly showed me the problem areas and what they would need to do to fix them. There was no sales pressure to get a new roof like many places do. I will do another review once the repairs are done.

Paul came out to inspect the roof after those big wind & hail storms. He was able to identify the issues and proposed affordable, smart solutions. Highly recommend!
Laura ALaura AMar 2026 · Google
Very pleased with the level of detail provided in the roof inspection following wind and hail damage to my roof and chimney cap. The inspection was thorough and comprehensive, offering a clear picture of the condition and remaining life of the entire roof system—including gutters, downspouts, roof surface, and attic interior. Paul and his team did an excellent job helping me understand my situation and the next steps toward resolving the issues. They answered all of my questions with patience and expertise.

SOS Roofing is true to its name. I contacted the company for emergency help for a friend. The company owner, Paul, responded immediately, arrived on-site in two to three hours, and had the emergency handled a short time after that. Due to a roof leaking badly in a serious rain and windstorm, a speedy response and solution was definitely needed. SOS Roofing provided that solution, preventing serious interior damage to the home. I highly recommend this company and its owner.

Gutter Installation Questions

What gutter profile should I choose for an Ohio home?
Most Ohio homes do well with a 5-inch K-style profile, which handles normal residential rainfall volume. If your roof has a large drainage area, multiple valleys flowing into one section of gutter, or a long uninterrupted run, a 6-inch profile moves water faster and reduces the risk of overflow during heavy rain. Our coordinator measures the actual drainage area before making a profile recommendation.
How do seamless gutters differ from sectional gutters?
Sectional gutters are joined in pieces, which means seams every 10 to 12 feet where leaks develop over time. Seamless gutters are fabricated on-site from a single continuous run of material to fit your exact roofline measurements, eliminating most of those joints. The only seams are at corners and downspout outlets. For Ohio's freeze-thaw cycles, seamless systems hold up considerably better over the long term.
How does ice buildup affect gutters in Ohio winters?
Ice dams form when heat escapes through the roof deck, melts snow, and the meltwater refreezes at the cold eave. That ice backs up under shingles and can push into gutters, bending hangers and separating seams. Proper attic insulation reduces the heat loss that causes ice dams in the first place. If your gutters are pulling away in spring, ice loading over winter is often the cause.
How many downspouts does my home actually need?
The general rule is one downspout for every 30 to 40 linear feet of gutter run, but that number changes based on your roof pitch and the drainage area feeding each section. A steeply pitched roof sheds water faster and requires more downspout capacity per linear foot than a low-slope design. We calculate this during measurement so you're not undersized in a heavy rain.
Can gutters be installed in winter in Ohio?
Yes, with conditions. Aluminum and steel can be installed in cold weather as long as the fascia is accessible and not covered in ice. We don't install on days where temperature drops are expected to cause the material to move before the sealant sets. Our coordinator checks the forecast window before scheduling. If a day looks marginal, we push it. A rushed install in bad conditions isn't one we'd stand behind.
What happens if the fascia board is rotted when we go to install?
We stop and show you before we hang anything. A gutter mounted to soft fascia will pull away within one to two seasons, no matter how well the bracket is set. Fascia repair or replacement needs to happen first. We'd rather have that conversation upfront than get a callback six months later. Honest assessment before installation is part of how we work.
How many downspouts does my home need?
One downspout per 30 to 40 linear feet of gutter is a starting point, but your roof pitch and total drainage area per section change that number meaningfully. A steeply pitched roof sheds water faster and requires more downspout capacity per linear foot than a low-slope design. We calculate the right count during measurement so the system isn't undersized when a heavy Ohio rain hits.
What happens if the fascia board is rotted when you go to install?
We stop and show you before we hang anything. A gutter mounted to soft fascia will pull away within one to two seasons regardless of how the bracket is set. Fascia repair or replacement needs to happen first. We'd rather have that conversation before installation than get a callback six months later. It's a short conversation that saves a real problem.
Do you install gutter guards at the same time as new gutters?
We can and usually recommend it. Adding gutter guards during a full replacement is the most cost-efficient point to do it. The crew is already on-site and the profile is already known. Guards reduce cleaning frequency and protect the gutter channel from the weight of wet debris sitting in standing water. We size guards to match the gutter profile exactly.
